03 / FIELD NOTES

Cancel a reinstall before reboot

Cancel a pending bin456789/reinstall before the machine reboots and erases the disk.

Changes configreinstallddreset

Why this way

The only undo that matters is before reboot. This page exists so panic has one short command, not a forum thread. After reboot, stop looking for magic—the disk is gone.

When to use

bin456789/reinstall was started by mistake and the machine has not rebooted.

When not to

After reboot the disk is already erased. This command cannot restore data.

Prerequisites

  • reinstall.sh still in the current directory
  • same shell session before reboot

Steps

Cancel the pending reinstall

Changes config
bash reinstall.sh reset

Expect: The pending reinstall is cleared. Do not reboot if you meant to cancel.

What it changes

Cancels the pending reinstall. After the reboot the disk is already erased, and this command cannot bring it back.
